• What organizations are eligible for a grant?

Tax-exempt 501(c) (3) organizations and public charities as defined by the Internal Revenue Service are eligible for funding. Grant support is also provided to local and State government agencies. All programs must directly benefit residents in any or all of our service areas, which are Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.

  • Do you accept proposals from individuals?

We do not accept proposals from individuals, only from eligible qualifying organizations.

  • If denied a grant request, can we reapply?

If a request has been denied, reapplication for the same grant is acceptable. However, it is suggested that the proposal be strengthened to ensure it is in line with the Foundation's mission and goals. In addition, please note that we are available to discuss your project and future steps.

  •  I want to apply for a grant. What is the first thing I need to do?

An electronic preliminary proposal form must be completed. The form is available on our Web site's Applicant Section in the Grant Toolbox.   If you are unable to apply on-line, please contact Jakes Olson at jolson@hfsf.org or by calling 305.374.7200.

  • Can we submit a preliminary proposal at anytime?

Preliminary proposals can be submitted anytime.  However, reviews are made only during our semi-annual grant cycles.

Amounts awarded and time periods vary and depend upon the scope of the project. Grants span one year to two and the average award amount is from $50,000 to $100,000.

  • Do you have formal application forms for full proposals?

Yes.  After an applicant is invited to submit a full proposal, they will receive a link to to access the form.

  • Can you share a copy of a successful proposal?

The Foundation does not share proposals, since they are considered the property of the applicant. We do share success stories, which are featured on the home page of our Web site.

  • How long does it take for a grant to be approved?

Typically four months. Please refer to the  grant cycle timeline.
