As a nonprofit grant making foundation, Health Foundation of South Florida strengthens our region to be a beacon of innovative and effective multicultural approaches to health care. Its mission is to expand access to affordable, quality health care for underserved individuals in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties by focusing on healthy lifestyles, preventive measures, primary care and oral health. Since 1993, we have awarded more than $78 million in grants and program support.

July is national Fireworks Safety Month. Last year, fireworks sent close to 6,400 Americans to an emergency room, reports the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The American Society of Ocular Trauma states 400 Americans permanently lose vision in one or both eyes due to fireworks injuries annually. Some of the most medically fragile children in the nation will get the help they need thanks to a $29,930 Health Foundation grant for ground breaking new technologies provided to the Broward Children’s Center . The new technologies allow for the secure and rapid microwave transfer of critical patient information between 11 different locations offering medical, educational, and daily living services to children with disabilities.

“Effective special needs care relies on many different professionals working together and sharing treatment ideas and that requires fast, efficient, and secure information exchange,” said Center CEO, Marjorie Evans. “This grant enables coordinated, responsive care which results in healthier, happier children.
